WHAT IS CLASSICAL BALLET?

Ballet is an artistic dance form performed to music, using precise and highly formalized set steps and gestures. Classical ballet, which originated in Renaissance Italy and established its present form during the 19th century, is characterized by light, graceful movements.

WHY IS BALLET IMPORTANT IN DANCE?

Ballet is a dance form that provides a strong foundation for dancers who seek to excel in other genres. Through the essential arm and leg movements that ballet teaches and amplifies, dancers are able to improve their core strength, balance and agility. Ballet’s training regimen promotes technical precision, poise, and grace, all of which are essential skills in dance. Additionally, ballet assists in the development of muscle strength and flexibility, leading to greater bodily awareness and control.  

WHAT IS JAZZ DANCE?

Modern Jazz dance is a style of dance that combines the styles and techniques of ballet along with those of contemporary dance and the original African-infused dance styles that were brought to America in the 17th century.

COMDANCE SYLLABUS

This Modern Jazz Syllabus contains an amazing body of work choreographed and developed into a sound progressive, developmental sequence by Rachelle Conroy and Sandra Breen. Some of Australia’s leading artists have contributed their choreography to the syllabus in both exercises and routines. The work is contemporary, technically challenging and a great preparation in all forms of jazz for today’s performance demands. The syllabus caters for children from 4 years up.

WHAT IS TAP DANCE?

Tap dance involves using the feet as musical instruments creating rhythms and synchronized beats.

Although introduced during the 19th century, has evolved over time, gaining popularity worldwide since the 20th century. It’s a creative style that requires technical skills, precision, rhythm, and timing. It has paved the way for a new form of entertainment, and dancers of all ages and levels continue to learn and perfect the craft.

GLENN WOOD TAP SYLLABUS

Glenn Wood wrote the GWT syllabus after many years of teaching and adjudicating tap. He noticed that there was a need for a dynamic and exciting tap syllabus – that was based on solid technique.
